Ben Stokes To Take Retirement? Reveals Plan After Leaving Cricket

England Test captain Ben Stokes shared his thoughts about his plans after retirement. The left-handed batter has been a key player for England and played a crucial role in their 2019 ODI World Cup and 2022 T20 World Cup victories in England and Australia. Stokes made his international debut in 2013 and has been a regular part of the England team ever since. Later on, after Joe Root, he was appointed as the Test captain in 2022.

Stokes, who is recovering, shared that he hopes to coach the team after he retires.

While talking to the Telegraph, Stokes said, “I can’t see myself being someone who when the day comes when I do stop playing, I’ll just not be involved with cricket. I do see myself probably wanting to go down the route of being a coach. I think that’s just my love for the game. When I’m done playing, I’d love to be able to try and affect a few people’s careers.”

Stokes has expressed his desire to participate in the 2025 Champions Trophy which is set to take place in Pakistan. However, he remains unsure about his future in white-ball cricket. So far, he has played in 114 ODIs and 43 T20Is, where he has got 3,463 runs in ODIs and 585 runs in T20Is.

“It’s hard to turn down those sort of big events, isn’t it? If I didn’t play another white-ball game, I’ll be very content with how many games I’ve played and what I’ve been able to achieve. I don’t know what the plan is going forward, whether they see me being a part of that or not. I’m sure there’ll be some conversation at some point about that. And I’ll be happy either way,” he added.
