Rohit Sharma and Ritika Sajdeh have named their son Ahaan. The couple had their second child in November this year.
The captain of India’s Test and ODI teams chose to stay with his wife and family for the birth of their baby. Because of this, he missed the first Test match in Perth.
The Indian captain is now with the team, playing a practice match against Australia PM’s XI at the Manuka Oval in Canberra. He joined the team during the first Test match.
When Rohit was not there, Jasprit Bumrah was the captain for the Perth Test. India won that match by a big margin of 295 runs. KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal opened the batting, and both played well, helping India lead the series.
Rohit will captain the team in the second Test in Adelaide, which starts on December 6. It will be a day-night Test with a pink ball at the Adelaide Oval.
Rohit will practice a lot to get used to playing with the pink ball. As he is expected to open the batting, it’s not clear where Rahul will bat.
It’s also uncertain which player Rohit will replace from the team that played in Perth.
With Rohit back, India will have most of their key players in the team. Shubman Gill’s availability for the second Test is not confirmed yet, but he has been seen practicing and might bat in the second innings of the practice match.
After his short break, Rohit will be more focused on scoring runs. Before the Australia series, people had doubts about his batting after India’s big loss to New Zealand at home.
He will be eager to keep India’s winning streak going and help the team reach the World Test Championship (WTC) final for the 2023-25 cycle.
