According to a recent report, the skipper of team India Rohit Sharma is likely to join the team before the Adelaide Test. Before that, Sharma will also play a warm-up game in order to regain his consistency.
As per ESPNCricinfo, Rohit Sharma stayed in India for the birth of his second child. He had informed the BCCI and selectors about his absence well in advance. However, he left the option open for last-minute travel based on the timing of his child’s birth.
India will begin the Border-Gavaskar Trophy without two important batters. Rohit Sharma is not available, and Shubman Gill, their number three batter, will miss the first Test due to a broken thumb.
KL Rahul and Abhimanyu Easwaran are the top choices to open alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal. There is also a great chance that both these batters will open the innings for India.
India can also consider young left-handed batter Devdutt Padikkal who has been retained in Australia with the Test squad. Padikkal has previously played one Test in Dharamsala, where he scored a fifty against England.
Team India desperately need Rohit Sharma as his experience is needed in order to secure a place in the final of ICC Test Championship. If India has to make it to the final of the tournament, they need to win four out of five matches.
Recently, team India was under scrutiny after losing the three-match Test series against New Zealand. Fans and experts raised questions on everyone including the senior batters like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
