Indian wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson made history during the first T20I between India and South Africa in Durban on Friday, November 8. Samson became the first Indian batter to score centuries in two consecutive T20I innings.
Samson achieved an impressive milestone by scoring his second consecutive T20I century in the first match against South Africa, reaching 100 runs in only 47 balls. His innings included nine sixes and seven fours.
In his previous match against Bangladesh, Samson had scored his first T20I century, making 111 runs off 47 balls. In that game, India set a record total of 297 runs against Bangladesh in Hyderabad.
He became the fourth player in the world to score centuries in two consecutive T20I innings, after England’s Phil Salt, South Africa’s Rilee Rossouw, and France’s Gustav Mckeon.
Samson continued his excellent form from the Bangladesh game into this match, punishing the Bangladeshi bowlers.
He reached his half-century in 27 balls and took only 20 more balls to complete his next 50 runs. Although he was dismissed for 107 off 50 deliveries, he had already given India a strong platform for a brilliant finish.
Samson bashed 10 sixes, which ties the record for most sixes in a T20I innings by an Indian, set by Rohit Sharma. Samson also hit seven fours in his innings.
