Sanju Samson and Jitesh Sharma are set to compete for a spot in the XI game for the upcoming IND vs BAN T20 series. Both wicketkeeper-batsmen have been included in the squad for the three-match series starting on October 6. Samson and Jitesh will be eager to make a strong impression in their limited chances during the series against Bangladesh.

Kerala batter Sanju Samson has been benched on many occasions. Despite being part of the squad, Sanju Samson has been often sidelined. This is partly because of circumstances like stronger wicketkeeper-batters or team combinations, but mainly due to his inconsistency with the bat. Sanju has missed several chances in the past, which has been a bigger factor than the fan frustration that arises whenever he’s left out of the playing XI.

Sanju Samson played his last T20I against Sri Lanka in July, despite debuting for India in 2015 and having only 44 matches under his belt. Even though he was selected for the T20 World Cup 2024, he sat out the entire tournament.

Samson often shines in the IPL but struggles in international matches. It wouldn’t be surprising if he’s benched again for part of the Bangladesh series unless India chooses to field both wicketkeepers in the squad.

Jitesh Sharma’s journey to fame has been slow and delayed. He debuted at the 2023 Asian Games and has played only 9 T20Is so far. Despite his limited experience, Sharma has shown great potential for Team India. Like Sanju Samson, he faces tough competition for a spot in the Indian team, with many keepers ahead in the race.
