Yashasvi Jaiswal was awarded Player of the Match in the second Test against Bangladesh, held in Chennai. He hit two consecutive fifties during the game, helping India secure a 7-wicket victory and clinch the series 2-0.
In the first innings, the left-handed batsman scored 72 runs from 51 balls, with 12 fours and 2 sixes, as India declared their innings at 285/9 in 34.4 overs. In the second innings, while chasing a target of 95 runs, Jaiswal played well again, scoring 51 runs from 45 balls, including 8 fours and 1 six.
During the post-match presentation, Jaiswal was questioned about his mindset leading into the series, especially after scoring over 700 runs in the previous series against England.
“I came into the series with the aim of winning matches for the team. I want to contribute to the success. The conditions were different in Chennai from what we encountered here in Kanpur,” he said on Jio Cinema.
The young batsman praised Rohit Sharma and head coach Gautam Gambhir for allowing him the freedom to showcase his skills during the first innings in Kanpur.
“Our captain Rohit Sharma and Gauti sir told me to play my natural game in the first innings. It helped me as I could hit boundaries and big shots. They didn’t want to tinker with my approach, and it proved crucial in the end,” he added.
