In recent times, team India has produced many star fast bowlers. Jasprit Bumrah has been the highlight among all along with the other fast bowlers such as Mohammed Siraj and Umran Malik. However, Sourav Ganguly has picked a player whom he thinks could be the next superstar of Indian cricket.
Sourav Ganguly believes Bengal pacer Akash Deep is a talented bowler with a promising future. He also highlighted that the 27-year-old has a pace similar to that of Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj, and will be a treat to watch him bowling.
Akash has been selected for India’s squad for the first Test against Bangladesh, which starts on September 19 in Chennai. The right-arm fast bowler claimed nine wickets for India A in their Duleep Trophy 2024 match against India B in Bengaluru.
While talking at an event in Kolkata, Ganguly said,”Akash Deep is a class fast bowler. He can bowl quick for a long period. He is fit and I have seen him taking wickets for Bengal in domestic cricket. He can bowl quick like Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami, touching 140 kmph mark. Akash is the one to watch out for.”
Akash made his Test debut against England in Ranchi, where he took the wickets of Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, and Ollie Pope.
“Team India has a good bowling attack despite Shami’s absence”, Sourav Ganguly
The former Indian captain feels that India has a well-settled bowling attack even without Shami.
“I know Shami is not there but he will be back before the Australia series. India still have a good bowling attack,” he said.
