Team India all-rounder Washington Sundar is likely to join the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction, which is expected to take place on November 25-26 in Riyadh. A recent report from The Times of India says that three IPL teams want to sign Washington Sundar.
Sundar caught everyone’s attention with his great bowling during the second Test against New Zealand in Pune, where he took 11 wickets in India’s loss. He got his first Test five-wicket haul in the first innings and then took four more wickets in the second innings.
Right now, Washington Sundar plays for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), but he is looking to join the IPL auction. According to The Times of India, three teams, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Gujarat Titans (GT), and Mumbai Indians (MI) are interested in him. SRH might also use the Right to Match (RTM) card during the auction to try to keep Sundar on their team.
A source from Times of India said, “Sundar is keen to go into the auction pool. At the moment, at least three teams – Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans, and Chennai Super Kings – have shown a huge interest in him. While he will not be in the Sunrisers Hyderabad’s retention list, SRH could retain Sundar in the IPL auction by using the RTM (Right to Match) card.”
Chennai Super Kings may target Washington Sundar because he knows the Chepauk pitch well. For Mumbai Indians, he would be useful for bowling in the powerplay and could also help with batting. The Gujarat Titans might also bid for him since he could work alongside Rashid Khan in their bowling lineup this IPL season.
Washington Sundar plays for India in all formats and is likely to get a lot of attention in the IPL auction. This past season was tough for him because Sunrisers Hyderabad didn’t use him much due to the ‘Impact Player’ rule. Sundar only played two matches in IPL 2024, where he took one wicket in five overs.
In his international career, Sundar has played in 52 T20Is and taken 47 wickets with an average of 23.48. He has scored 161 runs at an average of 13.41, including one half-century.
